David Dobrik Goes Big to Surprise His Community

It goes without saying that it’s a challenging time for many. Recognizing this, vlogger and social media star David Dobrik wanted to use the power of his platform to do good and bring joy to his followers, so he took a branded partnership opportunity and turned it into a monumental giveaway campaign conducted in real life, powered through Community.

David announced his intent to his massive following on social media, giving away his Community number, and launching him into our platform.

 “I want to be able to help some of you guys out right now. So do me a favor, shoot me a text. It’s not my actual phone number, but it is an actual phone number I have access to… And then I’ll text you guys and I’ll tell you what I have in mind.” 

Community provided the perfect vehicle for quick and direct conversation between David and his audience. Through the search function, David was able to identify Community members local to him and use keywords like “car,” “help” and “need a ride.” From there, he was able to reach out to individuals, show up in real life and the rest is viral video magic.

“The best part about it is in the app we could choose where the numbers are coming from so I could go like, ‘Okay. I’m in Orange County today. Let’s see who needs help in Orange County.’ So I just single out the people in Orange County and then I would single out ‘mortgage’ so I would see all the people that need help with their mortgage… So there’d be a list of people and they’d sent us their address,” David to Jimmy Fallon on his late night show.

David and his team surprised his Community members with everything from video game consoles and cars to frisbees loaded with free cash. There were even t-shirts with $10,000 checks taped to the inside! Maintaining physical distance during these surprise encounters, he was able to spread joy, bring visible delight and lend help to his Community. During a time when so many are in need, we applaud David for using his platform to help others.
